Three gender related laws were recently disseminated to the respective constituencies held by Malawi’s female Members of Parliament. This comes after the workshop held in Parliament on 8th July, 2016. The Honorable MP’s used various mediums to send the messages across, such as the launch of a football and netball trophy, development rallies whilst others chose sensitization workshops. Constituents were given these platforms to interact with their member of parliament as well as ask questions. Contentious issues arising included child marriages, the recent land bills, polygamy, divorce and maintenance. We thank the Members of Parliament for a job well done in informing their constituents on the laws and appreciate the financial and technical assistance rendered to them and WLSA Malawi by UN Women. The exercise has increased their visibility in their respective constituencies, of which may increase their chances of retention in the upcoming elections in 2019.
